My G10 Photo Challenge

The Challenge
Stop dreaming about an SLR camera before I know how to properly use my Canon G10 camera. The camera is the best in the point and shoot category and it's quite powerful... but my knowledge of how to use it is very limited. So today I set out on a quest to find out more.
I went to Barnes and Noble and skimmed through Digital Photography Simplified. Alas I'm beginning to understand the idea behind aperture, shutter speed, composition and other important factors in creating awesome pictures.

Photographers & Their Blogs

Get a glimpse of the faces behind the faces. A collection of the best photographers to follow. So much fun! The talent here is incredible and reading their blogs is like entering their personal world. You really get a feel for their personalities, styles and techniques & equipment they use - if your lucky.

Rochel Fellig Blog
She is by far the best child photographer around, and the first photography blog I followed so closely. She has a way of getting incredibly precious faces smiling at the lens in the cutest of clothing and prettiest of places. I was so excited when I saw her photos adorning the brick wall of the local Starbucks in Park Slope. Her blog is definitely worth the follow! Like closely.

Magazine Cutouts from Restoration Hardware

Browsing through Restoration Hardware's catalog I was surprised at how familiar I felt with the company although it was my first time hearing about them. For their first ever showroom magazine (pictured above), they did an incredible job. What surprised me the most was how little color is used in their furniture & overall design. Browns, neutrals, cremes, grays, black, silver - and that's all! I'm a big lover of color but it didn't seem to be missing here.
These are my favorite pieces...

Everyone Needs Air to Breath

...including my design work. This website design isn't going to be used by the company but I put lots of hours into it and think it deserves to have its own post.

Don't fear the internet

Don'tfeartheinternet.com is a resourceful website teaching HTML & CSS in a simple and entertaining way through video. Those two words (HTML & CSS) never mean much to me, I mostly just black them out when I come across them in books or tutorials, but that my change very soon. It's created by Jessica Hische (young, super talented letter designer & illustrator) & Russ Maschmeyer.

HTMLdog.com is a website that will take you step by step through the process of creating a website using HTML and CSS, not assuming you have any background knowledge. Go through the steps on the left side under 'Tutorials' and navigate your way to becoming a pro.

Behind the Design Scenes...

A really neat feature in photoshop is the screenshot button. I'm in the middle of designing a brochure cover and as I was going along, I kept clicking on that little camera icon. 1. it temporarily saves my settings, 2. allows me to see my progress and 3. allows me to go back to a previous art board with all the layers still there.
The nifty camera button in the history panel.
Use it when deciding between different style options.
